This blog was set up with one central premise: self-criticism of the Arab condition by an Arab Muslim American.

Through commentating on the news and pointing out the strengths and weaknesses of both Arabs, Muslims, and Americans, I hope we Arabs and Arab Americans can improve ourselves.

Too many times I have seen ignorance, ethnocentrism, arrogance, self-righteousness, and racism blind Arab culture and lead to our decadence.  Instead of a prideful and blind euphoric self-praise of the Arab peoples and criticism of all others, I will employ the unorthodox approach of telling-it-how-it-is and attempting to discover why the Arab world is behind and backwords.

If we do not learn from our mistakes and successes  - as well as those of others - we can never achieve progress.

Your post of June 4 included a reference to Barry Atwater, a very fine character actor who we apparently both admire. Thanks for giving him some publicity! It is Lee Atwater whom I think you meant.
